I wish…
It’s more like the second part of the song from Evita -
‘And the money kept rolling out in all directions…’
I just bought a month’s worth of formula at Sam’s Club on Saturday and felt like I was stocking a daycare. The girls eat a lot - 64 ounces of formula per day total to be exact between the two of them. Thankfully, we’re on the cheaper stuff now as the pediatrician lets us buy Similac Advance. Before this, we were on Similac Alimentum which cost twice as much.
If you’re feeding formula to your babies, here are some tips that may save you money:
- Figure out the lowest cost per ounce and watch for coupons/sales to beat that price (My price to beat is 78 cents/powdered ounce.)
- Shop around - the Sam’s Club closest to me charges a dollar more per formula container than the one 15 minutes away. The other Sam’s is right by Babies R Us so I just make a trip out of it.
- Consider online stores
- Talk to your pediatrician about generics
1 month of formula for our twins = $212.64 plus tax
5 and a half months till we switch to whole milk!

I’ve heard the phrase – “Having a baby changes everything” – probably from some ad campaign on tv a few times. After I found out I was pregnant with twins I began to wonder what effect having twins has on one’s life. Six months into this experience I can honestly say the whole thing has been completely life changing – both in good and bad ways. Nothing really prepares you for having a baby and no one ever tells you the real truth as to what things are going to be like A.C. (after children). It’s interesting what becomes a priority in one’s life after having a baby and how little some things matter now that used to mean the world to us.
This blog will be a chronicle of our experiences and will hopefully provide some guidance for others out there having multiples. I’m also planning on putting some of the sales/coupons that I take advantage of for the girls because I know just how expensive things get when you have more than one kid at home – hopefully I’ll be able to help some of you out that way as well.
Well, as usual, naptime has ended and it’s time for another feeding. A short and sweet posting to start out this blog.
